Texas A&M continues to lead in groundbreaking research and innovation, with three faculty members named Senior Members of the National Academy of Inventors (NAI) Class of 2025. This prestigious recognition honors Dr. Nick Duffield, Dr. Arum Han, and Dr. James Smith for their outstanding contributions to technology, science, and innovation.

Recognizing Excellence in Research and Innovation

The NAI Senior Member designation is reserved for faculty, scientists, and engineers who have demonstrated remarkable achievements in creating impactful technologies and fostering innovation within their respective fields. This year’s honorees from Texas A&M represent excellence across data science, engineering, and biology:

  • Dr. Nick Duffield, Royce E. Wisenbaker Professor in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, serves as the director of the Texas A&M Institute of Data Science. A leader in data analytics and network management, his pioneering research has significantly advanced large-scale data analysis, artificial intelligence, and machine learning applications.
  • Dr. Arum Han, Texas Instruments Professor and Associate Dean for Research in the College of Engineering, is renowned for his work in microfluidics and biomedical engineering. His research innovations have contributed to advancements in cell-based assays, single-cell analysis, and applications in healthcare and biotechnology.
  • Dr. James Smith, Professor in the Department of Biology at the College of Arts and Sciences, has made significant strides in biological sciences, particularly in microbiology and disease research. His contributions include more than 25 patents related to antifungal and cancer therapeutics.
