As April begins, campuses nationwide recognize National Student Employment Week, April 13-17, a time to celebrate the contributions of student employees and the impact they make within their organizations and communities. At Texas A&M Innovation, student employees play a vital role in supporting key initiatives while gaining hands-on experience that prepares them for future careers. Their work contributes to advancing innovation across The Texas A&M University System and beyond.
Student employment at Texas A&M Innovation provides meaningful opportunities for early professional growth. Through responsibilities such as helping maintain financial and licensing records, creating social media content, conducting research on emerging technologies, and assisting in identifying potential commercialization pathways for novel inventions developed at Texas A&M, student employees strengthen their writing, critical thinking, and analytical skills. These experiences not only support academic success but also help students develop confidence and professionalism in real-world settings.
Reflections from Across the Student Team
Student reflections highlight the broad impact of these opportunities. Hatch Cunningham, Student Assistant in Market Intelligence, shared that his role allows him to contribute beyond the classroom by working on projects centered on innovation, research, and collaboration.
“Through the many projects I have worked on, I have developed skills in communication, organization, and time management, which are preparing me for a future career in collaborative and impactful roles,” Cunningham said.
Nathan Mungai, Student Assistant in Media, emphasized the importance of effective communication in his role.
“I have learned that communication is more than simply sharing information,” Mungai explained. “It involves understanding deeply technical concepts, recognizing their value, and translating them in ways that genuinely connect with people.”
He added, “I have developed the ability to quickly absorb complex ideas, collaborate intentionally across teams, and help bridge the gap between innovation and impact.”
Manolo Garcia Moreno, Graduate Assistant in Market Intelligence, also highlighted the value of his experience.
“I’ve gained experience in primary and secondary market research, connecting with industry professionals, and engaging with experts for validation,” Garcia Moreno said. “These skills are shaping my future by strengthening my ability to build meaningful relationships and develop insights across a wide range of industries.”
Across the student team, many share a common experience of applying classroom knowledge to real-world challenges. Whether supporting events, conducting research, or contributing to communications efforts, student employees continue to develop critical skills in problem-solving, collaboration, and project management. Their contributions directly support the mission of Texas A&M Innovation and enhance the impact of the office’s work.
The dedication, creativity, and professionalism demonstrated by student employees strengthen Texas A&M Innovation every day. National Student Employment Week serves as an important opportunity to recognize their contributions and celebrate the meaningful role they play—not only within the organization, but in shaping the future of innovation.
