Denise Canales is Director and North Texas Market Sector Lead for The Texas A&M University System. She is a senior member of the Texas A&M Innovation (TI) Team which manages the intellectual property for the 11 Universities and 8 State Agencies that comprise the Texas A&M University System. She identifies and pursues strategic opportunities across the Texas Triangle, proactively identifying private sector market challenges and pursues partnerships which will provide solutions for identified business needs.
As part of her focus on North Texas, she is a critical member of the team bringing Texas A&M Fort Worth to life. This campus will provide a Tier One anchor for Fort Worth’s downtown, technology and innovation district. She and the other members of the team, work closely with the city, county, and other stakeholders to execute this tremendous endeavor.
Denise is an executive with considerable experience in the academic medical center environment. Her previous experience in healthcare commercialization includes serving as the Assistant Vice President of Technology Commercialization at UT Southwestern Medical Center. She has a background in pediatric neuropsychology and cardiovascular research administration, bioinformatics, and high-performance computing administration. She was a corporate compliance officer at CHI Health when it was the third largest health system in the US.
Her business experience extends into the private sector where she has founded multiple companies. In addition, she had the unique experience of taking software she designed while at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston Texas, from idea to industry, through a tech transfer spinout. She served as President of that company for several years leading the creation of solutions for the healthcare industry.
Denise resides in Fort Worth, offices out of Fort Worth as well as Dallas, and is often on the road in pursuit of the next opportunity for Texas A&M University System Innovation.
